Based on a combination of signal processing, pattern recognition, music and human-computer interaction methods, the lab aims to contribute to computers understanding, modeling and generating sound and music, with and without interaction with human performers. Topics of interest range from audio synthesis and computational sound processing to automatic and procedural music generation, for example for use in interactive computer systems, 3D audio spatialization for integration in virtual environments, among other application contexts. The lab has state-of-the-art equipment for sound reproduction and processing, as well as being acoustically treated for production and post-production purposes.

Topics of Interest
• Sound Design for Digital Media
• Immersive Sound Environments
• Generative Music
• Interactive Music
• Interfaces for Musical Expression
• Augmented Musical Instruments
• Software for Music Composition and Audio Production
• Musical Information Retrieval
• Computational Musicology
• Data Mapping and Sonification

Mission The Sound and Music Computing Laboratory conducts research in applied computing, the arts, humanities, and various topics within sound and music computing.
