{"id":1726,"date":"2018-07-25T09:00:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-25T09:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dei.fe.up.pt\/dev\/?p=1726"},"modified":"2022-02-08T17:18:20","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T17:18:20","slug":"fully-funded-ph-d-grant-in-prescriptive-analytics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dei.fe.up.pt\/dev\/fully-funded-ph-d-grant-in-prescriptive-analytics\/","title":{"rendered":"Fully funded Ph.D. Grant in Prescriptive Analytics"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<div>\n<div><strong>\u2014 DEADLINE FOR PRELIMINARY APPLICATION PHASE: 30\/JULY\/2018 \u2014<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Ph.D. Programme in Informatics Engineering at the University of Porto is starting a groundbreaking funding initiative in collaboration with some of the leading IT companies in Portugal to support outstanding candidates in areas including machine learning, artificial intelligence, software engineering, blockchain and others.<br \/>\nThe funding includes:<br \/>\n-a monthly grant of 1100\u20ac (above the value of the portuguese national grants, 980\u20ac)<br \/>\n-tuition fees<br \/>\n-some additional funding for traveling and equipment<br \/>\n-2 MSc grants\/year, to be supervised by the PhD student<br \/>\nThe candidate should have a very strong background in Informatics engineering, computer science and, ideally in artificial intelligence\/machine learning.<br \/>\nThe first grant is funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovretail.com\">InovRetail<\/a>\u00a0and aims to develop a platform for prescriptive analytics to automate decision making processes based on predictive models. The project will be supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.pt\/citations?user=Lw7ojGsAAAAJ&amp;hl=en\">Carlos Soares.<\/a><br \/>\nInterested students should send a 1 page PDF document to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:csoares@fe.up.pt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"il\">csoares@fe.up.pt<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2014<strong> UNTIL 30\/JULY\/2018<\/strong> \u2014, containing:<br \/>\n-a summarized CV<br \/>\n-a one paragraph statement of why you should be selected for the grant<br \/>\nAdditional advantages of this initiative are:<br \/>\n-a PhD project tightly coupled with industry and focused on problems of great interest to industry;<br \/>\n-Access to training activities and workshops promoted by the funding company (including training on additional technical areas and soft skills);<br \/>\n-Advice on writing the cv, on best ways to behave on interviews, on time management, etc.<br \/>\n-Privileged access to technical reports and technology;<br \/>\n-Advise on business plans and IP (registration, patent applications, etc.)<br \/>\n-Privileged access to investors investor capital and startup programs;<br \/>\n-Possibility to achieve higher impact based on the combination of two worlds (academia + industry) and on the associated \u00a0resources;<br \/>\n-Influence and propose future technology, methodologies, and practices (Informatics Engineering of the Future);<br \/>\n-Acquire the expertise to strongly contribute to decision making in terms of technology;<br \/>\nThe Ph.D. project will be carried out at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dei.fe.up.pt\/dev\/pt\/home-page\/\">Department of Informatics Engineering<\/a>\u00a0of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, one of the most dynamic and fastest growing departments of the U.
