I applied for a Ph.D. after working in the telecommunication industry. I was interested in either pursuing a more technical position within the same area or branching into the information technology industry. Both goals required the type of rigorous education offered by FEUP. I became particularly interested in data science. My Ph.D. provided much-needed insight into the information technology industry and the practical skills required by leading companies.
