The Digital Media Doctoral Roundtable (DMDR) is a new event promoted by PDMD students, and it is almost here, so we would like to share it with you!

To get us started excellently, the first Roundtable will be all about Games, and we’ll count on an excellent panel with experience as professionals and researchers in the field.
All the components are gathered for this to be a fun and engaging space where we can all learn, share, and innovate!

The event will be held online, via Zoom, next  May 28, 2021 5:30 PM .

CreativityTalks #02|Enhancing Human Creativity

The second session Enhancing Human Creativity will be on May 6 at 5pm (GMT/WET) and will have as keynote speaker Pattie Maes, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at MIT and Head of Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces . The session will be moderated by Luísa Ribas, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.

CreativityTalks is a forum for multidisciplinary creative thinking processes targeting innovation and new pedagogical methodologies. The series will consist of talks by leading figures that critically reflect and apply creativity in a broad spectrum of areas. CreativityTalks will be organised in yearly cycles of four talks. The target audience includes all fields of academia, research institutes, public organizations, companies, and society at large.

PDMD Meetup-Porto #10: Let’s share our Ph.D. work

The 10th session of the Digital Media meetups at Oporto will be held online, via Zoom, on the 19th March (Friday) 2021 at 5 P.M.

There will be no specific theme or guest in this meetup, but we will use it to make a sharing round between everyone present. The idea is that we all briefly share the current status of our Ph.D. work and what we are going to do next. We are sure that it will be an excellent time for sharing and that it can even act as anti-stress and clarify doubts or ask for help/opinion!

Right after this Meetup, we remember a relevant session for everyone that will take place at 6pm. It will be the second session of the cycle “PLAN D: what to do after the PhD?”, With Tiago Gama Rocha, Invited Assistant Professor at FEUP (Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto) and ISMAI (Instituto Universitário da Maia). This session, “D for Developing Communication Techniques”, will focus on the communication of scientific work, collaborative and interdisciplinary research, the use of creative strategies and digital technologies. PDMD Meetup-Porto #9: Let’s share our Ph.D. work

The 9th session of the Digital Media meetups at Oporto will be held online, via Zoom, on the 5th March (Friday) 2021 at 5:30 P.M.

In this meetup, we will have as special guests members of the Coordinating Team of the Working Group of Young Researchers of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences (Sopcom). It will be a brief presentation (15 min) about the Working Group, as well as the group’s objectives and how to be part of it.

Then we will do the usual sharing round between everyone present. The idea is that we all briefly share the current status of our Ph.D. work and what we are going to do next. We are sure that it will be an excellent time for sharing and that it can even act as anti-stress and clarify doubts or ask for help/opinion!

2021 Digital Media Doctoral Symposium – Call for Presentations

The Digital Media Doctoral Symposium (DMDS) is almost here, and we are looking forward to learning about your work!

The Digital Media Doctoral Symposium (DMDS) provides an opportunity for the Digital Media Ph.D. students from the University of Porto and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa to present and discuss their ongoing Ph.D. research work (e.g., research goals, preliminary ideas, research plan, initial/intermediate results), with experts in the field and peers. Students will receive feedback on the quality of their presentation and on the proposed research itself.

Below you find the key dates:

  • Extended abstract submission deadline: March 15th, 2021
  • Notification of acceptance: March 19th, 2021
  • Symposium: March 26th, 2021

Submissions consist of extended abstracts of 1-page (max. excluding references) and must provide an overview of the student’s ongoing work. Accepted submissions will be presented at the DMDS (10 minutes presentation + 5/10 minutes to comments and questions). Additionally, accepted submissions will be distributed to all participants and members of the panel, to allow them to prepare for a fruitful discussion during the session.

Due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19, we realize that there are some precautions that need to be made to maintain the balances of the need for sharing our knowledge along with the protection due to global health concerns. So, the DMDS will be held online (we will provide the link in due time).
